About Me. Pauline picture 2

A Personal Journey

I graduated in 1997 with a BSC (Hons) in Exercise & Health, gaining a BTEC HND in Science & Management in Health & Fitness prior to this. Post graduation I started working alongside General Practitioners and Nurses at hospitals, in Health Centres and in the community, where I would design individual diet, exercise and rehabilitation programmes according to individuals’ needs, objectives and current health.

I then began working as a health adviser and training facilitator for BUPA. I provided health promotion strategies to all clients, counselled them on all aspects of health and disease prevention, performed many types of clinical assessments such as blood, urine, stool and lung tests, and would perform stress exercise testing with ECG monitoring. As a Training Facilitator, I also developed staff and carried out staff and facility assessments during this time.

My journey first started when I was diagnosed with IBS at the tender age of 17. Everything I ate seeming to affect my digestion. I had also suffered from really bad menstrual cycles, always having time off school for at least 3 days every month. This continued into my working life, to the point where I seemed to be spending half my life at my GP. I went for many different types of invasive investigation: they all came back as being ok. Even though this was good news, none of the advice or medication I was given helped my symptoms; if anything, they made them worse.

About Me. Moonrise_001

This was what spurred me to go back to college and university, as I wanted to learn and understand more about how to prevent disease and illness and to find out what we can do to help ourselves. Over the years I tried many different approaches to help me live with my conditions but found that those based in conventional medicine never truly helped. I also tried many different lifestyle strategies which helped me to manage, but never really deal with the situation. I was 30 when I started getting other health concerns which led me to be in and out of hospital for a few years, and to having a lot of time off work. By now I had no self confidence. Then my health took a turn for the worst and was diagnosed with a borderline cancerous ovarian tumour. I needed surgery to remove the ovary and the tumour.

I had hoped that this would finally be it and that my recovery would be quick; unfortunately it was very slow, which I really never understood as I thought I was now healthy and fit. I then got diagnosed with depression, which I felt very ashamed of.

About Me. Candle_001

While I was making a slow recovery from this I started reading and exploring a wide variety of different treatments and therapies, discovering for myself the benefits of colon hydrotherapy and the empowerment and healing powers of natural nutrition. I trained as a colonic hydrotherapist in 2005 and for natural nutrition in 2006. I feel I have found my vocation in life, empowering individuals to find their own way as I have done and to feel in control, instead of being controlled.
